The Wages of Insanity

Posted : 6 years, 2 months ago on 12 February 2018 11:47 (A review of The Preppie Connection)

I don’t issue number ratings, in part to avoid sitting in judgment.

That said, just watching this movie made me feel sinful, and I don’t like that feeling.

The social climbing, the approval-seeking, leads to insanity. It leads to breaking the law, and not just the laws that are bought with money.

I’m not sure how well the film tells the story, but the story is, if you despise the limit, there is nothing you will not do.

It’s corrupt. Going to school to win approval, sex, drugs is corrupt. You should go to school to study, and read the Bible or the Bhagavad Gita sometimes in your room alone.

The modern world is corrupt, as is the market of pleasure, which is little but the market of sin.

If you look at a girl as nothing but sex, and an old man as nothing but an obstacle, and a stranger as a means to an end or a tool or an enemy or as nothing, then there is nothing you will not do.

Except learn.

The Creative Tension

Posted : 6 years, 2 months ago on 8 February 2018 10:30 (A review of Blue Bloods)

This show asks the hard questions, without giving the easy answers. It’s centrist, in a very high-tension kind of way.

On the right, there’s Danny; “I’ll do what I think is right.” On the left, there’s Erin; “What you think is not right.”

In the middle, there’s Jamie; “We can’t always just do what we want.... But in his place, I don’t know what I would have done.”

And soaring above it all, there’s Frank; “At this table, we are all family.”
